This EP was written over the course of 6 years. It is a confessional and love letter toMáty’s early 20s.Bio
With the debut release of her highly-anticipated EP, Máty is emboldening the Philadelphia scene with her impressive range - vocally, sonically, and lyrically. You could call her a DIY scene’s triple threat. A song like QUÉ PEDO will demand the recognition and I’m Tired solidify it. Máty is a New Brunswick-born, Philadelphia-based artist. She moved to Philadelphia about four years ago with the encouragement of her longtime producer, Justin Calaycay with Mt. Moon Recording Studio. Her new EP Standup Show hashes out the life changes Máty has both endured and decided for herself in the first half of her twenties. The namesake single of the project recounts Máty’s intense inner battle to unenroll from college and fully commit to her music career.
“I couldn't be happy if I didn't do music for the rest of my life. Like, I just knew it in my bones. I had been going through some stuff where my mom had an accident, and so I was kind of the sole breadwinner for my household. And I had dropped out of college to do that for us and I was bartending full-time. I was like, I could totally make this money and like, I don't have to go back to school. I'm not even happy studying what I'm studying. But, you know, I feel like I'm letting my parents down by dropping out of college and not trying to get back on my feet about it. I remember it sending me into this huge depressive state because I was terrified. I remember the second I realized [I wanted to pursue a music Career], I was in my bedroom and I got nauseous. I just wanted to throw up because I knew this is what I want to do for the rest of my life. It was going to be really hard and I was starting from nothing. I was just bedridden for fucking weeks because I knew it's this or nothing. So, Standup Show was what I had written as a result just being like, I need to put what I'm feeling into words right now and this is it.” Other life-changing decisions like getting sober and experiencing her first major heartbreak are also recounted with different emotional melodies. Some expressed as somber realizations (I’m Tired, Unilover) and others as cathartic releases (Ghost, T-Town).Standup Show is a composition of Máty’s early twenties, which she is ready to vent out and move confidently forward from. Whether you catch her live or stream Standup Show on your platform of choice, prepare to bang your head then clutch your hands to your heart - the Máty show is a beautiful scope.New music is already in production. out now “Ghost” Music Video
